2014 NBA Draft: Boston Celtics Pick James Young 17th

Did someone forget to inform the Boston Celtics that there are five positions to fill on an NBA roster?

To be fair, I picked Young 17th in our FanSided NBA Editor draft (which none of you Hardwood Houdini readers ever saw on this site, since the Joel Embiid injury caused me to throw it out the window!).

However, I selected Young after picking Aaron Gordon with the 6th pick.  I never envisioned Boston selecting two guards in this year’s draft.

I like Young, if only because of this nasty slam he threw down in the NCAA Tournament against UConn:

Young has great length, and is a steal this “late” in the draft.

And yet . . . it’s pretty clear that Boston is stockpiling guards for a reason.  The Celtics don’t need a roster that includes Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley, Jerryd Bayless, Phil Pressey, Marcus Smart and James Young next year.

Something’s gotta give!

We’ll hand out draft grades after the dust has settled – for now, what do you think of the picks?
