Free Agent Options #9: Roy Hibbert (RFA)

Hibbert could be the steal of this free agent class. Well, I would have said that about a month ago, and then he was absolutely dominated by Glen “Don’t Call Me Big Baby” Davis. Davis is a full 7 inches shorter than Hibbert and he used his short and stocky body to bully Hibbert out of position and into taking awkward shots.

Hibbert is going to have to play more like the All Star he was selected to be than the kind of player that can be stopped by Glen Davis. He’s a Georgetown big man product, and they tend to do well in the NBA. He should have a good career, but needs to continue along the same learning curve. It would help if he had another NBA veteran in his corner, someone that can show him the ropes. He is still only 25, but we forget that sometimes because he looks and sounds older.

Ainge will have to out work a lot of teams and hope the Pacers decide not to match the offer. It’s a long shot, but pairing Rondo with a big man like Hibbert could have far reaching positive impacts for the Celtics, and might make them contenders in the East.
