No Rondo, No Allen, No Problem

The Boston Celtics welcomed the Orlando Magic to the Garden last night with a chance to win the Atlantic Division on the line. A win would give them their 5th division title in a row. There were a few notable stars missing from the game yesterday. Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo both sat out due to injuries for the Celtics and Dwight Howard was sidelined for the Magic. Despite these injuries, both teams fought hard until the final buzzer.

The Celtics did a good job of distributing the basketball and getting everyone involved considering their star point guard was out. Paul Pierce, Avery Bradley, and Brandon Bass put up 20+ points each while Kevin Garnett had a 15 point, 9 rebound night. On the other side, Glen “Big Baby” Davis made his return to Boston and had a big night offensively with 27 points. The Celtics were able to get up by as much as 13 points in the 4th quarter but Orlando wouldn’t go away and fought back to make it a one possession game. With the score at 98-96 in favor of Boston, the captain Paul Pierce made a jump shot with 7 seconds left to make a two possession ball game. Orlando point guard Jameer Nelson made a quick shot with 2 seconds left to make it 100-98 but the Magic had to foul Pierce and he made his two free throws to ice the game.

The Magic are a possible 1st round opponent for the Celtics so it was nice to see them get the win, even if all the star players weren’t on the floor. Tomorrow night’s match-up against the Hawks is another potential playoff preview. The Celtics beat the Hawks at home in overtime last week in a game where the officiating overshadowed the play on the court.
