Moe Harkless could go in the late teens, but has the potential to be a lot like Paul George of the Indiana Pacers. He has a 7’2″ wing span and great athleticism and ability to attack the hole. He finishes well with contact and is going to be a good NBA small forward. He can shoot out to 20 feet and shoots especially well when wide open, rarely missing any freebies. He runs as good as a point guard and attacks the ball well on defense, getting a lot of deflections and swatting a good number of shots.
Harkless could be a bit of a tweener, but I feel like his speed will make up for that. He also shoots a low percentage from the field, which shouldn’t be given his athleticism (44% last season). He needs to add bulk to bang with the bigger bodies in the NBA. He could improve his stock in workouts and camps and shoot up the draft board, and nbadraft.net predicts Harkless to go 18th overall, three picks before the Celts are on the board. I don’t know if that will happen or not, but the Celts are going to have options for small forwards and Pierce is retiring soon enough. Much like Terrence Jones (Option #6), Harkless could fill Pierce’s shoes eventually. Well, no he couldn’t, but he could at least give the Celts a legit starting small forward.
