According to NBA Yahoo sports, Doc Rivers has been fined $25,000 for getting tossed out of the game on Monday night.
The NBA has fined Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers $25,000 for an argument with officials that led to two quick technicals and an ejection. The fine was announced Wednesday by NBA disciplinarian Stu Jackson.
Now from the start, I didn’t even think he really deserved to be ejected. He got fired up for the call and I have seen him get this angry before. In fact, he tends to bring it right out to half court on a timeout. He has never got a technical for any of those, and has never been fined for that. This game he just yelled, looked like a mad man, stayed on his own sideline, and then left the court. He didn’t pick up his chair and toss it, or get in the face and physically touch any of these refs. Unless it is written in the rulebook that if you are ejected as a coach, you receive a $25,000 fine automatically, I think this was unwarranted.
What it appears the league is doing is simply making it look like these refs are credible. Doc had to have said some extremely brutal comments, or this is rediculous. As if handing the Celtics a loss was not enough. I just want to see the refs get fined when they miss a step, because that happens just as much as anyone else on the court. The last time Doc was fined was during the Bill Kennedy occurance, and Kennedy was fined an “undisclosed amount”. Interesting.
Via CSNNE: The league said the flagrent foul call that was made was the wrong call, so Doc made that statement that he got fined for arguing a call that was wrong…. Makes sense. Rivers said if he had known he was going to be fined for being ejected he would have got his money worth out of it and did a break dance or something. (Paraphrasing)
