Boston Celtics: 3 Cs who could be cut to facilitate a signing or trade
Blake Griffin
Quite frankly, the odds of Blake Griffin being cut before the other aforementioned forwards are not high. Griffin owns a fully guaranteed $2.9 million veteran’s minimum deal and the 33-year-old provides veteran leadership and levity to a locker room that has been dealing with heavy issues since September.
Griffin was signed in the immediate aftermath of Robert Williams’ injury, and while it was always clear he wouldn’t be able to provide much of anything ‘The Timelord’ does on the defensive end, the hope was that he can provide a versatile option in Williams’ stead.
While Griffin was a key veteran on the 2020-21 Brooklyn Nets, he hasn’t been able to provide much on-court productivity this season. Griffin has scored two field goals this season on eight attempts from the field.
Even though Griffin’s last outing against the Cleveland Cavaliers was his most productive yet, Joe Mazzulla has not deployed him since, calling into question if there is a role for the former No. 1 overall pick.
The All-Star days are behind Griffin, but at this rate, there may not be many days to prove he is even a role player on a contender at this stage. The Houdini hopes that isn’t the case, but our hopes unfortunately don’t craft reality.
