Boston Celtics, fans, I can read you like a book.
Too bad, y’all: the Fab Melo show is headed to Brazil this year. Cue wailing of heart-broken Boston Celtics fans everywhere.
Ha ha ha ha!
Yes, ladies and gentlemen: I’ve got jokes.
In all seriousness, Fab Melo is the perfect example of why relying TOO heavily on the NBA draft is nothing short of gambling. (Are you paying attention, Philadelphia?) Not that Melo was ever considered a lock to become a solid NBA player . . . but he had enough potential that the Boston Celtics wasted the 22nd in the 2012 draft on him. Boston was clearly relying on the adage, “You can’t teach size” when they picked Melo. Sadly, Boston got more size than they wanted out of Melo, since he showed up to summer league before his second season just a tad out of shape.
Think the Celtics are wishing they had gone after Miles Plumlee, instead?
Ah, it is what it is! Fab Melo didn’t catch on in the NBA – Boston traded him to Memphis, who waived him and allowed him to go to Dallas . . . who also waived him – or even in the NBA D-Laegue, but he’s young, so who knows? He could enjoy a nice career playing in Brazil. Good luck, Fab!
