James Young may have missed the Orlando Summer League due to a minor neck injury he sustained in a car accident, but that has not put a damper on my enthusiasm for this young lad.
Sure, it would have been nice to see him lace up for the first time as a member of the Boston Celtics, but as many of you may already know, I am a huge University of Kentucky fan (don’t hate me – my father’s family is from the Bluegrass State), so I have already been treated to some memorable James Young moments.
With the Celtics’ current logjam at the shooting guard and small forward positions, Young is almost certainly going to ride the pine an awful lot during his rookie season, with most of his minutes probably coming in garbage time of lopsided contests. make no mistake about it, though: Young has what it takes to become an exciting and successful player in the NBA.
Today, after watching videos of Minnesota’s first-round pick Zach Lavine defy gravity a few times in Jamal Crawford’s Pro-Am in Seattle this weekend, I was inspired to share with you my top-five James Young highlights, including a few dunks of his own. It’s a nice little “Getting To Know You” moment for those of who you have not seen Young play yet, and besides: there’s no real breaking news in the NBA right now, so this will give you a hoops fix and whet your appetite for the coming season. Enjoy!
