Boston Celtics Daily Dish: Recapping Free Agency Day One

Afternoon, Boston Celtics fans!

The first day of free agency has come and gone – time to see what we’ve learned so far!

If the Celtics truly promised Jared Sullinger that they were going to bring in a big man this offseason, they are quickly running out of options.  First, Omer Asik was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans; now, Marcin Gortat has verbally agreed to re-sign with the Washington Wizards for five years and $60 million.

Not that Gortat was necessarily THE big man I wanted to see wind up in Boston, but he certainly would not have been a bad piece to the add to the Celtics’ arsenal.

Meanwhile, the free agent I was hoping the Boston Celtics would go after isn’t even on their radar, apparently!

But we do have guards on our roster!  Boston, you’re killing me!  Seriously, I like Avery Bradley.  He’s not worth the money he will make, though.

In other news, Shaun Livingston is headed out to Golden State, which is good news for Stephen Curry, who might be free to move without the ball a little more now.

Free agency is still picking up steam, so make sure you head over to Sekou Smith’s live blog to stay current!

Finally, lost in the shuffle following the Celtics’ picking Marcus Smart and James Young in the NBA Draft?  Phil Pressey, who did notice that competition for the position he plays has gotten stiffer.

Enjoy, and keep checking in with us as we track Boston’s every move!!!
