Kelly Olynyk Nabs 2014 NBA All-Rookie Second Team Honors

Well, Boston Celtics fans, the 2013-2014 NBA regular season may have been a bust for the Celtics as a whole, but it was an unqualified success for rookie forward Kelly Olynyk, who was named to the 2014 NBA All-Rookie Second Team Thursday.

Let’s take to Twitter to see who made up the first and second All-Rookie teams this year:

Philadelphia 76ers point guard Michael Carter-Williams was the only unanimous First Team selection, which should come as no surprise, since he dd win the KIA Rookie of the Year Award this season.  Orlando’s Victor Oladipo came close to receiving a perfect ballot, however, as he was only one vote shy of winning 125 First Team votes.

While Olynyk only received 19 First Team votes, he led all Second Team members with 119 total points.  Not too shabby for a kid who really didn’t see a ton of minutes early in the season, and who really only saw as many minutes as he did due to the spate of injuries which struck the Celtics’ roster in the second half of the season.  Regardless, Olynyk took advantage of his opportunities,  finishing his rookie campaign with averages of 8.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, while shooting 46.6% from the field.   Olynyk is just one of the reasons to be excited about the Boston Celtics next season, and I look forward to seeing more of his long locks on the hardwood in 2014-2015!

Here are the official results of the balloting, which  was tabulated by the independent accounting firm of Ernst & Young LLP.
