Boston Celtics NBA Draft Lottery Primer

It’s almost that time, Boston Celtics fans!

In just a few short hours, Cs fans everywhere will either be celebrating the luck of the Irish or cursing the basketball gods mightily, as the Celtics can wind up drafting anywhere from first to eighth in the NBA Draft, which will be held on June 26.

Love it or hate it, the NBA Draft Lottery and its ping-pong balls from heaven or hell will have a lot to say about the current rebuild that the Celtics are in the midst of, so let’s make sure you are all edu-ma-cated about what is going down tonight!

What: The NBA Draft Lottery

When:  Coverage begins at 7 p.m. on ESPN

If you’re not going to be in front of a TV, make sure you download and install the Watch ESPN app!

The Boston Celtics own the fifth-worst record in the NBA, but are hoping to obtain a top-three draft pick.  Their odds of doing so?   8.8%.

A little trivia: despite the fact that this is the Celtics’ 12th time being in the lottery, the team has NEVER won the first pick.   How about that?

Also: this will mark the first time since 1966 that both the Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers – only the two most successful franchises in NBA history – will each have a top-ten pick in a draft.   Trivia fans: tell me where each team picked, and who they selected, in that ’66 draft!

Make sure you tune in on Twitter – @houdiniceltics – to hear my insights and reactions to the lottery results.  I promise, what I have to say WON’T be boring!
