The Boston Celtics play the first game of a back-to-back road trip tonight when they take on the New Orleans Pelicans in the Smoothie King
Ah, corporate America! You have sucked the life out of sports arena names everywhere!
Boston has not beaten a Western Conference team on the road all season, while the Pelicans have won 9 out of its last 11 home games against Eastern Conference opponents. Making matters worse, New Orleans has beaten Boston four straight times, including a 95-92 decision in TD Garden on January 3.
So naturally the Celtics are going to reverse these trends and secure a victory tonight, right?
That all depends in large part on how well Pelicans All-Star Forward Anthony Davis plays. Davis went off for 36 points on 15 for 27 shooting Friday night, and has scored at least 28 points in his last five games. Even though New Orleans is lottery-bound, just like the Celtics, it’s clear that Davis is a young stud worth building around, so Boston better have a game plan to stop him tonight.
I suggest quintuple-teaming him!
The Celtics may have to rely on a sublime performance from point guard Rajon Rondo, who should be free to log some major minutes as he will not be playing in tomorrow night’s tilt in Dallas. Rondo will be matched up against Pelicans rookie point guard Brian Roberts, who is not exactly a defensive specialist. Rondo has struggled to put the ball in the basket lately, but tonight’s matchup is the type that could allow him to go off.
The game is set to tip off at 6 p.m. tonight. Be sure to follow us on Twitter @HoudiniCeltics and check in after the game to see what Trey has to say!
