Kelly Olynyk Leads the Boston Celtics to First Win of Preseason, 111-81 Over The New York Knicks

Kelly “Fear the Hair” Olynyk scored 15 points and grabbed 6 rebounds, the Boston Celtics scored the first ten points of the game, and the New York Knicks rested pretty much every starter they had, all of which amounted to a 111-81 win for the Cs in their fourth preseason contest.

Don’t get me wrong – the Celtics fought the Knicks tooth-and-nail just three nights ago, and a win is a win, especially a 30-point trouncing.  It was good to see Olynyk get some more press, too:

Olynyk is going to be fun to watch this season, as he is a high-energy player who can provide a nice boost off of the bench for the Celtics.  I’m glad he had such a great performance tonight.

Some other players that stood out for Boston tonight were guards Avery Bradley and Jordan Crawford, who netted 13 points apiece.   Celtics head coach Brad Steven had this to say about Crawford, who also grabbed seven rebounds:

I hope Stevens is right about Crawford, as the Cs desperately need someone to create offense in Rajon Rondo’s absence if the team wants to stay afloat until Rondo can return.

Other notable stars for the Celtics tonight were Jared Sullinger (12 points, 5 rebounds) and MarShon Brooks (13 points). It’s nice to see the young guys get a chance to play some big minutes and notch a win in their belts.  Even though it was just a preseason game in which the Knicks showed little to no interest in being competitive, it’s a confidence builder.  As Sullinger pointed out,

Good mindset to have, Jared!

The Celtics continue their preseason play this Tuesday night against the Brooklyn Nets beginning at 7:30 p.m at the Barclay’s Center.   Be sure to get your pre-game rundown and post game thoughts right here at Hardwood Houdini, and as always, leave any comments you have for me below, or on twitter @theamazingMrS.
