ESPN Ranks Boston Celtics 13th in Eastern Conference

Tom Haberstroh of ESPN.com did a preview of the Eastern Conference today. He ranked the Eastern Conference by best team, and whaddaya konw, the Boston Celtics were slotted at 13th. Here’s the link to the preview here. (PS. its ESPN Insider)

For those who don’t have an insider account, here’s a little snippet of what Haberstroh had to say about the Boston Celtics:

As is, the Celtics figure to be in the running for not just the league’s worst defense, but I struggle to see how they score enough to fight their way into the playoff picture. Remember, this was the 20th-ranked team in offensive efficiency last season, and that was with Pierce, Garnett, a healthy Rajon Rondo and Terry. Who’s their No. 1 scoring option next season? Jeff Green? Yikes.

This is a legitimate concern for the Boston Celtics. Rajon Rondo is nowhere close to being a scoring point guard. He’s shown that, in flashes and spurts, he can carry a team. But flashes and spurts will not be enough to carry this team into the playoffs.

Rondo’s 13.7 points would lead the team in scoring right now, but that is a total fit for a second or third scoring option. Unless he can catapult himself into the first option, I don’t see this team having a chance to make noise in the postseason.
