The Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers are the only two teams in the league without a head coaching position filled. Apparently, they’re drawing some of the same coaching candidates as well.
San Antonio Spurs assistant, Brett Brown, was thought to be the Philadelphia 76ers coach very soon. However, according to SB Nation’s Liberty Ballers, Brown may have some interest in joining the Boston Celtics:
While it looks like Brett Brown will be leaving the San Antonio Spurs with zero of Gregg Popovich’s top assistants, he may not be ditching him for Sam Hinkie and the Sixers. A source close to the Spurs organization has informed Liberty Ballers that the Boston Celtics and Brett Brown have mutual interest, and a signing may be imminent.
I’m not sure how true this is, but if it is then it is good. The sooner you fill out the head coaching position the better. The Celtics were said to be interested in bringing Jay Larranaga on as the head coach. He is coaching the Celtics’ summer league team this season in Orlando.
It seems that the Celtics aren’t in a rush to fill this spot until after summer league, though. So I really don’t expect a decision soon.
