Report: Rajon Rondo and Doc Rivers have squabble

Apparently, Rajon Rondo and Doc Rivers got into it during a team meeting. This isn’t something that seems too unusual in any locker room, but Chris Sheridan reports that there is more to it than that:

It isn’t just that he doesn’t want to be a part of a rebuilding situation; it is because he has an intense dislike for point guard Rajon Rondo.

A source close to the Celtics tells Chris Sheridan of SheridanHoops.com that Rondo dropped an F-bomb on Rivers in the locker room during a team meeting, and Rivers went after Rondo and tried to fight him before the fracas was broken up.

So there is that. Another bombshell thrown on this Doc Rivers situation by an unnamed source. I think this is a very interesting report. Rajon Rondo has come out and said that he doesn’t really want to play for anyone but Doc Rivers. The two seem to have a great understanding of each other on and off the floor–well, at least before this.

This is the first time I’ve ever seen someone say that Rivers doesn’t like Rondo. Rondo has been the subject to many trade rumors over the last few years and is obviously the Celtics’ best trade piece right now. If Rivers had a problem with him, and the Celtics have locked themselves in long term to Rivers, then I think Rondo would’ve been out of the fold by now.

Also, I think this is pretty commonplace in the NBA. If Rivers didn’t want to coach Rondo because of an F-Bomb, I don’t think he’d be an NBA coach for very long. He’s seen and heard all of this stuff before. And for Rivers to try to fight Rondo seems pretty absurd to me.

I don’t know how true this is–if at all. But it just seems very weird to me. If its true, it may buy someone some leverage and it makes sure that the Celtics let someone go this offseason.

I’ll put it this way. Rondo entered the NBA and they had Pierce. Garnett, Allen and Rivers complete the group. RONDOS HAD 4 GREAT YEARS SINCE THAT CHAMPIONSHIP. Rivers has done nothing positive for the Celtics. He wasn’t able to elevate his benches the next 3 years to a point where he played them regular minutes. He can’t coach, Coaching involves teaching the players how to be fundementally sound and play as a unit. Rondo is a Celtic at heart and Rivers is not by far. I wish Chris Paul the best at trying to get the Clippers a deal for Granett and Rivers. Garnett with their lineup might be a difference maker come playoff time.
