The Boston Celtics will tip off against the Miami Heat for the final time this season. They will do so without the help of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce tonight. Doc Rivers has chosen to rest his starters for the time being. The Miami Heat, however, will be playing their three star players tonight in LeBron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade. Shane Battier and Udonis Haslem will not play tonight.
The Celtics will have a tough task ahead of them taking on this team without their stars. If they’re going to have a chance in the end, they’ll need Jeff Green and Brandon Bass to keep them going down the stretch. Bass has been a pleasant surprise for the Celtics providing somewhat of a spark on offense in his last five games. He’s averaging 15 poitns per game in the last five.
Jeff Green has averaged 17.2 points per game on 13.4 shots per game in the last five. He’s been very good in his starting role since he’s earned it and has been very comfortable in green. He’s come a long way from the moment that he was first traded to the Celtics.
Tonight, Green and Bass will need to step up to help guard LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. The Celtics aren’t going to have anyone defending the rim, so they’ll need to do all of their work on the perimeter and through help defense. Bass and Green are going to have to lead this team and provide defensive directions for the rest of the team.
Not having their two best defensive players is going to hurt the C’s–especially against the Heat. This is one of the best offenses in the league and its a long shot that they’ll win this game.
Tonight’s game will be in Miami. It’ll tip off at 7:30 p.m Eastern.
