The two most tenured Boston Celtics have a chance to make history tonight in Charlotte. Both Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce need to score 10 points each to move up on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.
Kevin Garnett will move just ahead of Jerry West’s 19th spot with 10 points. He’ll eclipse West’s 25,192. He’s sitting at 25, 184 currently and will probably go out and get that tonight. When he moves ahead of West, he’ll be 19th on the all-time scoring list.
Garnett will have a chance to pass Reggie Miller at 14 before the season is over as well. Miller is at 25,279 points right now. Garnett only needs 95 points to surpass that total. There are 21 games left in the season. Garnett is roughly averaging 15 points per game this year. He’ll surpass Miller’s total within the next seven to eight games most likely.
Pierce, on the other hand, needs just 10 points to surpass Charles Barkley’s total of 23,757 points and get into the top 20 of the all-time scorign list. Pierce sits at 23,748 right now. The next number he’d have to surpass at 19 is Allen Iverson. Pierce is 620 points behind Iverson right now and it’d take another season to surpass his total most likely.
In both cases, these are two players who are extremely talented and continue to watch their hard work pay off. They’re both surefire Hall of Famers and its great to see them accomplishing these feats while they’re still in green.
They’re two very special players that the Celtics organization should be happy to have come across. After all, there are plenty of teams who would give everything and more for championship caliber players such as these two. Tonight, we’ll get a chance to honor them as they add another feat to their already lavish list of accomplishments.
