NBA Trade Rumors: The Brooklyn Nets Interested In Paul Pierce?

This rumor is actually an interesting development as the Brooklyn Nets tried going after Paul Pierce before this season began, but were unsuccessful as the Boston Celtics went in a different direction by keeping their core group of players together. According to Brian Geltzeiler, founder of and Co-Host of Sheridan Hoops radio, his sources are telling him that the Nets have turned their attention away from Josh Smith who they’ve tried hard at acquiring to Paul Pierce.

A. Sherrod Blakely of CSNNE also reported that interest in Pierce around the league was “lukewarm”. However, Danny Ainge has been reluctant to trade Pierce as talks between the Atlanta Hawks broke down, as he was the only player that could get a deal done to acquire Josh Smith.

Before the beginning of this season, Paul Pierce truly believed that he was going to be playing in Brooklyn this season according to reports. But seeing where trade discussions lead, he might actually end up there. Depending on what the Nets offer, Ainge will be willing to listen, but the chances of a trade going through is highly unlikely.

We’re just under 24 hours away from the trade deadline. While talks have cooled, expect them to fire up quickly again by later tonight into tomorrow morning. Knowing Danny Ainge, he’s probably got something in his back pocket, whether it’s a big or small trade that he’s conjuring up with another team. Ainge is smart, if there is a move that can better the team now or down the road, he won’t hesitate taking the opportunity. Boston has definitely been busy, but is this all talk, or is their a backbone to these rumors?
