With all the rumors surrounding the Celtics recently, it’s interesting that they’re close to signing a player who can play both small forward and shooting guard, and not sign a true point guard. However, with this potential acquisition, it would allow Courtney Lee to play the point guard position and fill Leandro Barbosa’s spot instead of playing time at small forward which Lee has done a few times in the past nine games.
Despite the fact Terrence Williams hasn’t stayed with a team throughout an entire season since his rookie year, Williams has posted decent numbers in his career. He’s averaged 7.6 ppg, 2.2 assists, and 3.4 rebounds. Being surrounded by Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Jason Terry could be good for him, and maybe they can help elevate his game to a level no other team he’s played for has in three years.
I’m still interested as to why they’re signing Williams. The small forward position is the least of the Celtics worries, and while he can play guard, a true point guard would make more sense. But, Williams can supply offense, and Boston can certainly use it with Barbosa done for the season. As we inch closer to the trade deadline, it will be interesting to see what other moves the Celtics make, whether it’s free agency or trade.s
