Boston Celtics Trade Rumors: Doc Rivers Opens Up about the Trade Talks

Today Doc Rivers sounded off about the trade rumors that his team has been having to deal with lately. This is the fourth consecutive year in a row in which they’ve had to deal with such, and I’m sure he’s tired of it. This isn’t the first time that he’s done so, but this time around the comments seem to have much more weight because of Rondo being injured and the Celtics sitting where they’re at.

Rivers simply said that the rumors of the deal where Eric Bledsoe and Caron Butler would be packaged for Kevin Garnett were just “silly”. Here’s the quote from Doc himself.

“All from [the media],” the Celtics’ coach said of trade rumors. “None from us. Really. I would like to say that. Sometimes I like [the media], sometimes, some of the stuff that happens is just silly. It really is. When I wake up in the morning and I hear a trade rumor that I haven’t heard in my office, that’s silly, and that’s what happens.”

Rivers continued: “I heard one report — I honestly did — that me, [Los Angeles Clippers guard] Chauncey [Billups], Kevin [Garnett] and Paul [Pierce] had dinner. And I was like, ‘I wish I would have known about it. That would have been terrific, because I would have made them pay and I could have had a free dinner.’

“But it’s just silly what goes on. And I don’t think it’s honestly [the Boston media]. I think someone can sit behind a computer and write something. The problem is, now you guys have to actually report it, which you shouldn’t do. But you do, and it becomes an issue.”

Doc coming out and saying that doesn’t really mean anything that this point. If there’s going to be a move made, there’s going to be a move made. The media could very well have just fabricated the whole scenario. But the media won’t normally just spread rumors just because. There’s usually some sort of truth to it.

Kevin Garnett came out and said thathe would waive his no trade clause if Paul Pierce was traded before he was. He said he would also only waive it if he was going to play in LA. He’s very particular about where he’s playing at now because he’s older. He only wants to play for a contender.

Garnett also lives in Malibu. Its not surprising that he would only want to play in LA. Only time will tell if either player will be moved. But I wouldn’t be surprised if a deal manifested itself eventually.
