Josh Smith is apparently being sought after by the Phoenix Suns. After missing out on Eric Gordon and Rudy Gay, the Suns are trying to make a move for Smith Alex Kennedy of Hoops World reported.
If the Suns are seriously trying to go after Smith, the market for him is getting larger and larger. Everyone knows about Josh Smith and his troubles with the Atlanta Hawks organization. They’ve been struggling to hammer out a deal. Smith recently came out and said that he wants a max deal, but its obvious that the Atlanta Hawks don’t think he’s a max player.
In the end, I’m not sure if anyone believes that Smith is a max player, but I’m sure that the Suns would be willing to compensate him. Bob Sarver has been known to throw out some questionable deals in the past while at the same time trying to save a pretty penny. It depends on how the rest of the market feels about Smith.
I’m fairly certain that even though he’s on the Celtics’ radar, Danny Ainge isn’t pressing to make Josh Smith their max player. He’s been far too inconsistent throughout his career to be considered a real max player. It’ll be interesting to see if the Celtics would be willing to throw that kind of money at Smith.
Smith is a known friend of Boston Celtics’ star point guard Rajon Rondo and also has trained with the Celtics in the offseason. I’m sure that he’d be a more than welcome addition here, too. They need a defensive big that will dive and finish at the rim.
