NBA Free Agency: Boston Celtics Acquiring Courtney Lee According To Reports

According to reports, after weeks of speculation the Celtics may have finally got their man. The deal is still being worked on, and according to Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald, there may be a 3rd team involved.

Let’s take a look at what has already been reported and who we are sending to the Houston Rockets for Courtney Lee.

E’Twaun Moore, JaJuan Johnson, Sean Williams, and a 2nd round pick from the Oklahoma City Thunder that Boston had acquired in the Jeff Green dispute a few weeks ago, will be sent to Houston assuming there isn’t a 3rd team in the trade.

It has been reported that the Rockets will release Moore tomorrow. Due to the new CBA, the Celtics can’t turn around and re-sign Moore, they’ll have to wait until the following season.

There are rumors that Johnson is seeking a trade before he even plays one game for the Rockets, but unfortunately for him, Houston likes what he can bring to the team.

According to Jimmy Toscano, a writer for CSNNE, Courtney Lee will be signed to a 3 or 4 year deal, and the first year is guaranteed. The following years may also be guaranteed, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Now that Courtney Lee maybe here, the Celtics can now just make minor adjustments to the roster. The back court is set, but the Celtics could sign one more backup point guard. So, with Jason Terry, Courtney Lee, Rajon Rondo, and Avery Bradley, Boston’s back court is going to be a problem for teams. They have speed, versatility, outside shooting, and great defense.

Until Lee’s contract is confirmed, the Celtics still have a bi-annual exception, and veteran minimum contracts left to sign remaining free agents. Along with a little money to spend, a few roster spots opened up making more room for guys on the summer league team who are good enough to get invited to training camp, and for the pre-season games.

The roster nearly complete, I do expect a couple more signings before free agency is over. Right now, Danny Ainge looks more and more like a genius. He’s created a deep lineup in a matter of three weeks, and added some decent young guys to compliment the aging veterans. This season is going to be fun for Celtics fans. I can’t wait for training camp to begin so we can get this journey started.
