If the Celtics get OJ Mayo, do they say goodbye to Ray Allen?

Lot of people are thinking if the Celtics pick up O.J. Mayo in free agency that it could spell the end to Ray Allen in a Celtics uniform. This may very well be the case, but there are a couple factors that could prevent this from happening.

The first factor would be is that Miami can only offer him $3 Million and the Celtics can offer him $12 Million over two years, that would be hard to turn down as a player.

The second factor is now that Kevin Garnett has signed a deal with the Celtics it would be very hard for Ray to leave knowing that KG is back and I don’t think KG would just let Ray leave the team and go to a rival like Miami is.

The third factor is that we all know O.J. Mayo was the sixth man on the Grizzlies and why would we be so quick to write him off in being the sixth man for the Celtics? The truth is if Ray returns and we have O.J. Mayo is that Mayo is going to get a ton of playing time so Ray can rest for the playoffs. The Celtics could give Mayo starter minutes coming off the bench, because of the fact that they are an older team and would need to rest some of the veterans for the playoffs.

Prediction: Don’t be surprised when you see Mayo and Ray in Celtics green next season. If the Celtics get both players they could make another strong run for the finals and it would cause’ nightmares to have to defend both Ray and Mayo the whole game.
