The Maine Red Claws have waived former Celtic Ricky Davis. The road back the NBA, via the NBDL, lasted just 11 games.
Over those 11 games, Davis averaged 8.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.
The Maine Red Claws are an affiliate of the Boston Celtics and Davis spoke about the possibility of joining her former club.
“Those guys over there, they’re class acts. Doc Rivers is easily probably one of the best coaches I’ve ever played for. He’s the one that kind of started the team thing with me, bringing me off the bench and teaching me different kinds of things in the game. That would be a great blessing for me to go back to Boston and get my Bucket Brigade going again (laughs).”
Over 736 career games, Davis averaged 13.5 points, 3.3 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game.
Davis spent time with the Celtics, Charlotte Hornets, Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Los Angeles Clippers, but his time with the Celtics made him more of a household name. The time with the C’s also brought his only playoff appearance.
The 32-year old Davis was drafted 21st overall by the Charlotte Bobcats in the 1999 NBA draft. Davis has spent time in France, China and Turkey over the last few seasons.
Does Davis have anything left to offer a prospective NBA club, when prompted, Davis offered
“Oh yeah, I’ve got a lot to show, I was holding back and I’m ready. I’m ready.”
Only time will tell is Davis can make it back to the NBA, at only 32, there is a possibility. Davis has the ability to score points in bunches and could be a valuable asset to an NBA club assuming he can keep it together both on and off of the court.
Until then, we bid adieu. Thanks for making the pre-Big Three Celtics somewhat watchable.
