As expected, Shaquille O’Neal sat out of today’s practice in order to rest his injured hip. Speaking after practice today, head coach Doc Rivers hinted that Shaq could be out the next two games possibly returning on Friday when the Celtics take on the Suns in Phoenix.
Said Doc Rivers: “I know [O'Neal will] miss [Tuesday] unless something happens with a miracle. And the flight to Portland is a difficult flight, seven hours or whatever. I, personally, think that would be tough for him. After that, he’s pretty much available, but we want to avoid back-to-backs if we can.”
Even if healthy, the odds of Shaq playing in back to back road games was highly unlikely. Getting to rest against a last place Cavs team and an injury riddled (sound familiar) Blazers team is pretty much an ideal time for this to happen.
The Celtics will need Shaq to be at 100% as they’ll face the Suns and Lakers in back to back road games.
Marquis Daniels also missed today’s practice with what is being called a “family issue” and his return for Tuesday’s game is up in the air at this point.
