The Celtics have confirmed that rookie guard Avery Bradley will be sent to the Maine Red Claws of the D-League to get some work in. The move is expected to take place sometime this week.
Bradley, who was drafted #19 overall out of Texas, has been buried on the bench behind Nate Robinson and Von Wafer and will be even further from playing time once Delonte West returns from injury in a few weeks.
Said coach Doc Rivers after practice on Thursday: “We’re going to send Avery down pretty soon, so he can get some reps playing basketball. I just think he needs to play basketball. Sitting, especially in this stretch where we didn’t practice at all, hasn’t helped him.”
Avery has played in only 14 games this season averaging 1.1 points and 4.7 minutes per game.
Basketball wise, the move makes sense. There is no point having him on the bench when he could actually be playing in games and possibly improving his overall game. The big question is whether Bradley will make the best of this opportunity.
