I had a pretty good feeling Pierce wouldn’t be playing in this game. Even though it is a big game against our conference foes, it is only 1 of 3 meetings these teams will have before the end of the season. Pierce has been noticeably hobbled with injury upon injury. His thumb is obviously bothering him as he is completely off on his free throws (and he is a 85% free throw shooter on the year). Via Boston.com’s Frank Dell’Apa:
And both Daniels and Pierce missed practice Wednesday with flu symptoms.Daniels could be available for the game but Pierce, who also has a sprained thumb, is likely out.
As was mentioned by Dell’Apa, these two are the Celtics main defense on Lebron James. That means likely if both were out, we would have to fall back on Tony Allen to play d against James. TA is a game by game defender. Somedays he will look very good, and some days he will jump in the air on every single pump fake. If it is the case that Tony Allen is playing, we will just have to wait and see which “TA” shows up. In the first matchup, Daniels did play very good defense on James, which is a bummer that he may be out. Hopefully he will be able to go, and hopefully Pierce keeps sitting. There is no need to rush Pierce back right now. Get him 100%, or atleast 90%, and get him back in to be ready for the playoffs.
