CELTICS 94 MAGIC 96
What is the blue print of the Celtics opponents thus far this year? To any coach out there of any team set to face the C’s here it is- Let the Celtics get out to a huge lead, but just keep playing because eventually Boston will stop doing what they do best. Its just crazy. The team looks so good one minute, but go on one bad stretch and find themselves in another tight game. Tonight was no exception. The C’s played probably 2 great quarters of basketball, but slacked when they could have really put the dagger into the Magic.
In the 3rd quarter the Celtics were up big, and the game looked all but over. That is until we decided to lay back and strictly shoot 3’s. The team got very happy with just settling for threes, and they were not threes that were created, but simply average looks. Not only that but the switch in defense from KG on Lewis to Pierce on Lewis, as the Celtics went small allowed for Lewis to get his night started as he had a huge height advantage. Lewis had a game high 23 points.
This game was another tough one to swallow. If there was one good sign to come from this game, it would have to be Ray Allen. For the first time in a long time Ray showed signs of life. He began the game 7-7 and 3-3 from behind the arc. He finished the game with a team high 20 points. Despite his efforts, KG had a very bad night on both sides of the ball, Pierce could not seem to find a rhythm offensively, and neither Perk nor Rondo could make up the slack as they only had 15 points combined between them. The Celtics have their work cut out for them over the next 3 days. The Hawks will be the matchup tonight, and the Lakers will come into the Garden on Sunday afternon. They will have to make a couple of statement victories here to prove they can play with these teams. The C’s are better than the Magic, and I have all of the confidence when I make that statement, I just think they need to prove it against other teams they will probably be facing on the way to a title this year – Atlanta and LA.
