Celtics Charge Past Bulls, Win Tenth Straight

The Celtics went into Chicago tonight hoping to improve their record to 19-4, and grab their 10th straight victory. Well, they did just that as they defeated the Chicago Bulls 106-80. Here are some quick notes from tonight’s game, look for a complete recap later tonight or early tomorrow morning.

  • Coming into the game we expected a very physical game between these two teams, it didn’t take long to notice it. With 8:32 remaining in the first quarter Rajon Rondo drove to the basket and received somewhat of a clothesline from Brad Miller, resulting in a flagrant foul,  this may have been a little payback from last year’s playoff series.
  • The Celtics closed out the competitive first quarter leading 29-26. Paul Pierce led the early charge for the C’s with 8 points, including 2 3pt field goals, in the first quarter.
  • The Rondo vs. Rose matchup really heated up in the second quarter, the two were attacking each other the entire quarter. Rose scored 7 points in the quarter, while Rondo scored 2 and handed out 3 assist.
  • The Celtics seemed to play with more motivation in the second quarter and jumped out to a 54-46 lead at the half. Paul Pierce and Rasheed Wallace led the team in scoring at the half with 10 each.
  • We saw a scary moment during the third quarter when Paul Pierce went down with what seemed to be a shoulder injury. Being the warrior he is, he returned to the court after a quick timeout.
  • The Celtics used a 13-2 run, and a strong third quarter to grab a twenty point, 83-63 lead at the end of three. All five starters, and Sheed, were in double figures after three quarters. Rondo leads the way after three quarters with 15 points and 11 assist, Pierce has 14.
  • The Celtics held the Bulls to 32.6% shooting and 11.6% from behind the arc.
  • Seven Celtics scored in double figures tonight. Rondo led the way with 16 points, while also dishing out 14 helpers.
  • Rasheed Wallace and Eddie House had great games off the bench with 15 points each. Pierce, Garnett, Rondo, and Allen had 14,12,10, and 10 respectively.
  • Derek Rose led the way for the Bulls with 19 points, followed by Luol Deng with 17.
