Time Warner Cable Arena – Charlotte, NC
7:00 PM Tip
The Celtics head to our always dreaded destination of Charlotte to try and wrap up their 5th victory in a row. The C’s are coming off a good all around performance the other night in Miami where the pulled one out through buckling down on defense, and making crucial buckets at just the right time. The Bobcats enter the game at 7-9 but are no pushover as they have won their last 4 games.
Key matchups for the night are basically both teams entire starting 5. It is hard to choose a matchup to look at the most because they are all great. However, the way Gerald Wallace has played as of late, him and Pierce should be fun to watch. In 2 of the last 3 games, Wallace has dropped in 31 points. Pierce has been scoring at will as well, while playing great on defense. The Truth will have to contain Wallace, and keep him off the highlight film. From the guard position, Ray is going to have his work cut out on defense staying with Stephen Jackson. Jackson is not afraid to shoot from anywhere, so Allen is going to have to decide whether to crowd him or not.
On the Bobcats winning streak, they have posted 101.5 ppg, while only giving up 83. So far this season Charlotte has the top ranked defense as far as points given up is concerned. The Celtics scorers will need to have a big game tonight. I don’t know if we can afford Ray to go 1-7 from three like he did the other night. When he gets those open looks they will have to go down against the Bobcats, or they will take full advantage of the missed opportunities.
Both teams come in tonight with their 4 game win streak- Who will leave with the 5th? For the Celtics to get it done, they will be forced to get over their woes in the Time Warner Cable Arena. Its not the crowd, but their is some mystique in that building that makes the C’s play at a lower level. For the Bobcats, they will have to play the same type of defense they have all year, and one of their players will have to have a big night.
