Last night the Maine Red Claws, the Boston Celtics D-League affiliate, opened up their inaugural regular season with a game against the Sioux Falls Skyforce. Despite jumping out to a early eleven point lead the Red Claws eventually fell to the Skyforce by the score of 112-95. I was able to watch the game on NBA.com during breaks in the Celtics and Raptors game. I can not give you much opinoinated info from the game play that I actually got to watch, but I will try to just run down some important facts from the game.
- Billy Thomas, the Red Claws first pick in the expansion draft and first player in franchise history, played a solid game netting 18 points on 6-9 shooting. Thomas is an alumni from Kansas University, and should be the most consistent player on the team this year.
- The Red Claws turned the ball over 19 times, while only tallying 15 assist. This is a assist to turnover ratio that needs to improve for this team.
- Bill Walker, a member of the Boston Celtics, scored a very impresive 25 points in the game. He came out of the game dominant scoring 10 points in the first quarter. While I was watching the game Walker seemed to come down with some form of head injury, but later returned to the court.
The Red Claws return to the court tonight against the Dakota Wizards in hopes to even their record up at 1-1. I will be looking forward to see if Bill Walker can repeat his effort last night. Getting quality playing time in Portland is the best thing for a guy like him coming off from a fairly severe injury. Hopefully he will continue to build his confidence back up and be able to contribute to the “big league” squad later this year.
