Boston Celtics Takeaway #2: The bench is no longer a liability

The Celtics have had serious depth issues over the last few seasons but with the improvement of returning players and the retooling of the roster, the bench is finally beginning to make significant contributions.

Boston has seen returning players like Payton Pritchard and Grant Williams develop into great role players as well as some deadline acquisitions make a difference, such as Derrick White and Daniel Theis.

Grant Williams is one of the most elite 3-point shooters in the league, shooting 42.2% , which is a huge surprise considering he missed his first 25 career long-range attempts. Payton Pritchard continues to torch the nets from deep range and knocked down three of his four three-pointers last night.

Derrick White has provided solid minutes for the C’s and seems to have rediscovered his shooting stroke as of late. Daniel Theis played one of his best games since returning to the team and even earned himself a standing ovation.

The improved bench play is just as important to the Celtics’ winning ways as the starters improved play.

Putting all of this together along with the dominance of the starting five, this is a team that is built to make a deep playoff run.
