The Boston Celtics absorb Rudy Gay into Dennis Schroder or ‘Juancho’ TPE

Significantly smaller TPEs the Cs have at their disposal–making a deal more likely considering the luxury tax implications of taking on a bigger salary into the Evan Fournier TPE–were created in the recent Juan Hernangomez/Dennis Schroder deals.

Hernangomez was dealt in a three-way trade for two injured players (Bol Bol, P.J. Dozier) while Schroder was dealt to the Houston Rockets along with Enes Kanter Freedom and Bruno Fernando to bring the ‘War on Theis’ back to Boston.

Either would work to bring on a salary like Rudy Gay’s, which is currently being paid for by the Utah Jazz. Utah is a contender for now, but could certainly deconstruct in the offseason if one of their stars wants out after another early exit.

Gay has experience playing for Ime Udoka as an assistant, while also providing a solid 3-and-D veteran presence to the Boston bench mob.

What he also has is a Jazz higher-up in Danny Ainge that could well decide to help his old head coach Brad Stevens out and send the vet to the Celtics in an “IOU” arrangement. Gay would come on as an expiring contract looking to win a ring with a Cs squad that would theoretically have proven to be a contender.
