The Boston Celtics do a deal with the devil(s)

Marcus Smart in a Los Angeles Lakers uniform is an upsetting image at best and a vomit-inducing one at the other end of the spectrum. The historical rival being the team that Smart takes a step outside the Celtics’ world into would be a sad, sad turn of events.

But, it’s seen as feasible considering the Lakers’ ability to offer Talen Horton-Tucker in any deal. More pieces would have to be involved coming Boston’s way, and a third team may even need intervening to make the money work.

But Smart joining LeBron James and co. allows the ‘king’ to never have to guard the opposing team’s best perimeter player again.

LA’s other team get involved instead

There are pieces on the Clippers that could entice Boston in any Smart deal, including Marcus Morris, who’d be yet another in a growing line of Cs returnees. While Morris may have contributed to whatever disarray arose out of the 2018-19 Boston locker-room, he also contributed to winning basketball as a starter of 53 games.

Perhaps his toughness and 3-point shooting (which has fallen off with LAC in 2021-22) could be needed once more alongside the ‘Jays’, who have been accused of lacking the former.

Elsewhere, Eric Bledsoe, Luke Kennard, and Reggie Jackson all also loom as trade options given their $10 million+ salaries.
