Boston Celtics trade target No. 1) Karl-Anthony Towns

Karl-Anthony Towns is a player we at HH discussed many times in the past as a possible trade target for the Boston Celtics, even listing him on our “stars to watch” list published just a few short weeks ago.

Today, we bring up the notion once more that he’d be a great talent for Beantown to pursue this offseason and, much to our delight, we’re not the only ones with this mindset, as former Celtics great and 1981 NBA Finals MVP, Cedric Maxwell, recently expressed his belief that the man known as KAT would be an ideal player for Ainge and co. to trade for:

"“Karl-Anthony Towns is the person I’d like to see,” Maxwell said. “He’s a big that can rebound the basketball.”"

Now, of course, Towns is more than just what was said in Maxwell’s interview, as he’s soundly in the conversation for being considered one of the top-3 centers currently in the league and, at the very least, he’s arguably the best offensive five.

Another season, another wasted campaign for the sixth-year pro, as the 25-year-old went on to post stellar per-game averages for the once-again lottery-bound T-Wolves. In 50 games played, Towns found himself putting up 24.8 points, 10.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.1 blocks on 49 percent shooting from the field and 39 percent shooting from deep.

Heading into the year, there was already buzz circulating that the 2x All-Star could be viewed “as good as gone” and, with yet another playoff-less campaign, more rumors have managed to make their way into the mainstream suggesting that Minnesota’s front office could opt to blow things up and thrust their franchise player onto the trade block.

In serious need of some frontcourt bolstering, if these rumblings turn out to be a reality, and Karl-Anthony Towns winds up available, the Boston Celtics should do virtually everything in their power to try and obtain the stud big man.

Throw in however many picks, whatever combination of young assets, and almost any salary matches they can come up with (though, obviously, talks will begin to slow down once a name starting with “Jay” gets mentioned), if the man winds up on the blocks, they should try like hell to acquire him.
