Why the Boston Celtics do it

Perhaps Boston could actually mine draft capital in return for facilitating an Evan Fournier sign-and-trade. The Mavericks are a team looking to placate Luka Doncic after getting a taste of postseason success and after an underwhelming start to the 2020-21 season themselves (also currently slated to be in the play-in tournament), offseason changes seem imminent.

Fournier won’t garner a first-round pick, but the Cs could potentially return a future second-rounder for their troubles. It took only two seconds to acquire Fournier in the first-place.

The players in this deal could have sneaky value, though. Maxi Kleber is a career 37% 3-point shooter and Josh Green is a jump shot away from being a handful on the floor. The hope is that Brad Stevens (or whoever may be at the helm) could get the most out of the pair, especially the young Green, a 2020 draft pick.

Why the Dallas Mavericks do it

Evan Fournier could be a very competent complement for Luka Doncic and Dallas. At the very least, he could help continue to power the Mavs to owning one of the league’s fastest and most efficient offenses.
