Why the Boston Celtics do it

Eventually, a big swing must be taken by Danny Ainge to contend in the Eastern Conference. Until the day he is traded elsewhere, HH will see Myles Turner as the necessary swing to shore up the middle and add an offensive threat at the 5 that could stretch the floor and finish lobs.

Domantas Sabonis and Turner are not meant to be in the Pacers’ frontcourt. That Indy may not even make it to the second round of the play-in tournament (or even make the play-in tournament if Toronto can roar back into it) is about as blunt of an indictment as there could be. Landing Turner at this price, while relatively steep, gives Boston a solid center combo of Turner and Robert Williams and allows Ainge to explore a separate deal for the expiring contract of Tristan Thompson.

Why the Indiana Pacers do it

Indiana knows that Sabonis and Malcolm Brogdon are their two core building blocks moving forward, so flipping Turner for a piece that better complements that duo would be a forward-thinking move for Kevin Pritchard.

Adding a 2020 lottery pick and a 2022 first-rounder makes this deal a must-do for Indiana.
