Yante Maten

Yante Maten actually got some minutes as well during the 2019 preseason with the Boston Celtics, but ultimately he was bound for Maine after not sticking out much with the Miami Heat during a 13-minute stint with the defending Eastern Conference champions back in 2018-19–when they were not the cream of the crop in the east.

Yante Maten put up stupendous performances for the Red Claws during the truncated 2019-20 campaign, averaging 21 points and just over a block per game on 56% shooting from the field and 50% shooting from 3 at one point.

He is clearly an NBA player, and even if he doesn’t end up with the Cs long-term, he should get the chance to showcase what he can do. What’s the worst that can happen? Another team scoops him up and maybe he makes Danny Ainge rue the day he sent him away.

The best thing that can happen is Maten landing a more permanent gig and bringing his excellent passing chops and doggedness to the Boston Celtics roster. Sounds like a gamble worth rolling the dice on.

John Bohannon

In a small sample size, John Bohannon put up one of the all-time intriguing stat-lines. On one hand, you have the 2:1 assist-turnover ratio. In another, you have six rebounds per game in just 15 minutes of action.

Here’s where it gets great: Bohannon torches nets at a 45 percent clip from the 3-point line. Oh, did the Houdini mention he stands at six-foot-eleven?

This man needs a training camp invite. The Boston Celtics may have a unicorn on their hands, and the preseason needs a hero. As enticing as it is to run back Tacko Fall as the beacon of the Boston bench, Bohannan adds to the alliteration of being the beacon of Boston’s bench.

Pen, paper, ink. Deal, Danny?
