Semi Ojeleye

It is downright damning for Semi Ojeleye to have not seen the court in what was the deciding Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals. After Gordon Hayward‘s return, Ojeleye was used sparingly as a backup.

What’s even worse is that Ojeleye wasn’t on the floor for the Celtics’ Game 3 and Game 5 victories, while being present for their losses. Scoring more than 3 points just once in the postseason (his game-high was seven points against the Raptors), Ojeleye proved that he couldn’t rely on more than his ability to occasionally hit 3-pointers.

That said, his 3-point shooting may be what pays his next salary. Several rebuilding teams may see his physical stature and floor-stretching skills as a big (37 percent 3-point shooter in 2019-20) and send him an offer sheet. The New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons loom large as potential threats to sign him to a lucrative offer sheet.

While he is one of the longest-tenured Celtics, having played with the team since 2017, it may not make sense extending his tenure. With three incoming draft picks, Ojeleye’s restricted free agency is far from a priority this offseason.
