OG Anunoby

OG Anunoby will forever go down in Boston Celtics lore–for all the wrong reasons–after he hit a buzzer-beating game-winner in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. His best game came in the form of a 13-point, 13-rebound double-double in Game 6, a game the Raptors won in double overtime.

Making under $4 million next season, Anunoby would make sense as a trade target if the Raptors have no intention of giving him a decent-sized deal in the wake of what will be a notably stacked 2021 free-agent class.

Norman Powell

Like Anunoby, Norman Powell is due for a raise in the summer of 2021. Toronto may be in need of every single penny of cap space to go star-chasing, while the Celtics will have the ability to re-sign anyone acquired in a deal with bird rights–with an eye on the luxury tax in mind of course.

Powell’s shooting would be a pretty fit off the bench and his defensive chops would be welcomed. Like Jayson Tatum, his cap figure will rise in 2021 if he opts out and looks for a new deal. Boston is already capped out though, and can’t find better talent in free agency, so if Toronto would be willing to take on either the final year of either Daniel Theis and Enes Kanter and a combination of Vincent Poirier and Carsen Edwards to go along with a first-round pick,  perhaps these two teams can find a middle ground.

Matt Thomas

The last Cs target is one of the more unsung members of the (formerly and technically still) defending champion Raptors. Matt Thomas was a relatively unknown rookie before he had a miniature breakout in Game 5 with a 10-point outburst in under 20 minutes of action.

A first-round pick may be too much to give up for Thomas, but flipping the contract of Carsen Edwards would be an easy way to help ease the roster crunch that is coming to the team in the offseason to acquire a true 3-point sharpshooter.
