Joel Embiid

While there’s been rumors of Brown being swapped for Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons, in reality there isn’t much logic to such a swap. Simmons makes more, fits in less with the team and is best when the ball is in his hands. The last thing the C’s should do is take the ball out of the hands of the ascending Jayson Tatum and point guard Kemba Walker.

Instead, the C’s should be focused on Philadelphia’s other superstar, Joel Embiid. It’s not exactly breaking news that the 76ers are an imperfectly constructed roster. Simmons and Embiid were never a good fit alongside each other, and things got even more tenuous when Al Horford was signed away from Boston to form an ill-fitting front-court in Philadelphia.

Danny Ainge could offer the Sixers a chance to alleviate that log-jam. Now, obviously Brown alone wouldn’t be fair and equal value for the three-time All-Star. Gordon Hayward would need to be added in a theoretical deal, and a boatload of first rounders would be needed to even start the conversation.

Embiid in Boston would be a significant shift in power in the Eastern Conference and the league at large. While he doesn’t have the offensive repertoire of Towns, Embiid would transform the defense into a juggernaut, with the added bonus of Marcus Smart having an expanded role on the team assuming he was retained.

Like Towns, Embiid would be a justifiable target because of the lineup balance he would bring, and the potential to form a cornerstone duo with Tatum for the long-haul.
