Boston Celtics Receive: John Collins and Kevin Huerter

Atlanta Hawks Receive: Romeo Langford, Robert Williams, Carsen Edwards, Memphis & Milwaukee’s 2020 1st Round Picks, Boston Celtics’ 2021 1st Round Pick, two future 2nd Round Picks

We’ve talked plenty about how well John Collins would fit in with this Boston Celtics team. This proposed deal would not only bring the big to Beantown but, also, fix their second unit’s perimeter and overall scoring.

When looking at the plethora of mock drafts the media has concocted, it appears that a realistic possibility for the Atlanta Hawks is that they’ll draft a guard from this incoming crop to pair alongside face of the franchise Trae Young in the backcourt.

From LaMelo Ball to Tyrese Haliburton, we’ve seen it all. Because of this, the idea of them nabbing another über talented guard to insert into their lineup could make a guy like Kevin Huerter expendable.

The second year two-guard out of Maryland has been a part of the team’s starting unit for the majority of his tenure and has proven himself to be a quality scorer at the professional level.

With an impressive ability to work off ball and excel in catch-and-shoot situations -a la Klay Thompson — Huerter finds himself posting averages of 12.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game on 41 percent shooting from the floor and 38 percent shooting from deep on six attempts per game.

He would fit in perfectly on a free-flowing, off-ball moving offense system such as the one Brad Stevens tends to run and would thrive in drive and kick situations with Kemba Walker, Gordon Hayward and Marcus Smart.

Huerter would without a doubt help improve the second unit’s 29th ranked points per game average and 27th ranked 3-point percentage.

Sending the likes of Romeo Langford, Robert Williams and Carsen Edwards would easily help improve the overall depth of the Hawks roster while also allowing them to continue their youth movement. However, easily the biggest draw of this exchange for Atlanta is the boatload of draft capital they’d be receiving.

Five added picks within two seasons (three firsts and two seconds) is an intriguing notion for just about anyone.

Boston would be bringing on the potential answer at their five as well as a fantastic scoring asset, both of whom are still under the age of 24.

Atlanta adds a talented young wing in Langford, an athletic/ defensive presence in Williams and a scoring guard in Edwards who has ample potential as well as the rights to five total draft selections.

Seems like a solid exchange for both parties. What say you Celtics fans?
