5. Los Angeles Lakers

Our first entrant is the LeBron James-led Los Angeles Lakers. You may think this is a low rating, and before you assume it is a case of clear cut bias given this is a Boston Celtics site, hear me out.

For years, James has been somewhat of a cheat code because of his overwhelming amount of athleticism that leads to utter dominance in 2K. This year, he finally has the perfect pick-and-roll companion, making finding Anthony Davis open down low a simple task.

With knock-down 3-point shooters in Danny Green and Avery Bradley flanking him, and uber-athletic center JaVale McGee also a perfect pick-and-roll partner for the King, the Lakers are an easy choice if there is money on the line due to how easy it is to spam opponents with a pick-and-roll-centric offense.

Winning is fun, and using the speedy Alex Caruso and Rajon Rondo off the bench also lends to a rewarding experience. But playing with the Lakers could make the game seem a little too easy. That doesn’t always lend to the most fun of game-play.

4. Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets in real life are a five-out, space the floor Mike D’Antoni offense that sees the offense commandeered by All-NBA stars in James Harden and Russell Westbrook. While the game doesn’t always adapt to Houston’s small-ball revolution, using Harden and Westbrook together gives defenses a pick-your-poison proposition trying to guard the duo.

There are few more fun things to do as a gamer than to size up the defender and beat them with a flurry of tricks. Harden and Westbrook have some of the best first steps in the league and that translates to their almost superhuman speed in the game.

Beyond them, though, there are not a lot of shot creators. The Rockets are a lot of drives, fouls and 3-pointers and sometimes it’s more fun to vary the scoring in a video game.
