If MarShon Brooks wanted to prove that he is serious about his NBA career, he sure took a huge step toward achieving that goal last night.
In his first game in the NBA Development League as a member of the Maine Red Claws, Brooks scored 27 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, and dished out 3 assists. He shot 50% from the floor, but did hit 3-4 from downtown. That’s a great start for someone who needs to get his confidence up after seeing only 61 total minutes of action in the NBA so far this season.
I understand it’s just the D-League, and that some people will say, “If he was good enough to play in the NBA, the Celtics would have played him.” Well, he was good enough to play in the NBA – he did make the NBA All-Rookie Second Team, you know – but he was on a Celtics squad that is loaded with guards already, even with Rajon Rondo out of the line-up. This is a good opportunity for Brooks to show what he can do, and either be acquired via a trade or be picked up as a free agent next summer.
The Maine Red Claws play again tomorrow night against Springfield, and we’ll keep you up to date on how MarShon does!
