As the days pass it is looking more and more like the Carmelo to New Jersey deal is about to happen. As it currently stands, the Nets, Nuggets and Pistons are working on a deal to send Anthony to the Nets in a major, potentially 15 player deal. Here is what is known so far:
The Nets would get Anthony, Anthony Carter and Chauncey Billups from the Nuggets and Richard Hamilton from the Pistons.
The Nuggets would get Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, Anthony Morrow and potentially two first round picks from the Nets.
The Pistons would get Troy Murphy and Johan Petro from the Nets and possibly one first round pick if Denver does not get both.
These are the major players as of now, other players would have to be added to make the salary cap math work.
This deal is also contingent on Anthony signing an extension with the Nets and reports are coming out that he is more inclined to do so now that Hamilton has been added to the mix. Hamilton has 2 years remaining on his current deal for about $25 million.
The deal has so many moving pieces and would improve New Jersey overnight. Detroit would save about $17 million in the deal. Chauncey Billups has expressed his desire to be bought out should he ended up traded to the Nets. Billups is having a good season playing in his hometown and has nothing to gain by moving back east.
