Ray Allen May Be a Goner

After getting home from work and looking around the web to see if there was any new injuries, or breaking news, I scrolled across Celtics Blog and saw what they had quoted from Yahoo Sports:

The Celtics have initiated trade proposals on Allen, multiple league sources say, and Boston is searching for a younger, less expensive guard and an expiring contract. This way they can find a replacement for the 34-year-old Allen without losing him and his $20 million expiring contract for nothing in free agency this summer. Only, there isn’t a shooting guard available who’s Allen’s peer. This threatens a perilous choice between transitioning for the future and refusing to compromise a chance to win a title now.

Allen is privately resigned to the fact that it’s unlikely the Celtics will want to re-sign him this summer. He’s believed to be intrigued with the possibility of joining the Miami Heat or staying close to his Connecticut home and signing with the New York Knicks. Nevertheless, Allen wants to stay a Celtic and that’s never wavered. Yet the sheer economics make it improbable unless he’s willing to cost himself several million dollars next year.

Yes, Allen would be difficult to replace for this season, but the Celtics can overcome that easier than Garnett gimping around the floor as a shell of his old self.

Now I’m not much for looking into rumors, because there are so many of them to be found. We have heard Monta Ellis for Ray Allen and that kind of got swept under the rug. We heard all the Rondo talks in the offseason, most of which may, or probably were not true. I just think this is news worthy, and discussion worthy.

I personally think if Ray was not trying so hard to impress he would not be in this situation. Am I the only one who thinks Allen has been taking many shots out of character? It just seems like he is trying to do too much because he wants to stay on this team. Unfortunately that has worked against him, kind of like reverse psychology (Maybe?).

I am very indifferent about whether or not this trade involving Ray should happen. I guess it is very dependent upon who we get in return. With the two teams listed above (Miami and New York), I am not confident in being returned enough to make up for the loss. I am a strong believer that the team needs to do SOMETHING before the trade deadline, I’m just not positive whether or not it is this?

I don’t think its Ray taking shots thats working against him I just honestly think he doesn’t know his place for the celtics and behind close doors its been a issue for the C’s league. When he played for bucks and seattle he was more of a slasher type going to the whole but can shoot the 3 quite well. Now since thats pierce roll he was assigned the 3 ball which will get him his shots and worked alright to get him the ring. Now that he has one I think he isn’t confortable with just being that same guy to just spot up and shoot. He only takes 10 shots a game unlike Paul pierce or rondo who seems to want the spotlight for the C’s. But in the beginning of the season Ray was dunking, and driving to the whole a lot, now he is back shooting 3′s so I feel that he is confused to what his role is for the C’s.

I think I agree with you. His role is changing in every game he goes into. Depending on the defense and the opponent he is either designated to the three ball or attacking the basket. The good news is he can do both but the bad news is that his three ball has dropped off dramatically. I keep saying give him time but my patience with him is growing small.
