Practice in Lowell, MA

Perkins Talking Bout Practice, Practice!

After two straight loses the Boston Celtics have their fans biting on their fingernails. Sloppy play, lack of energy, lack of execution, and may I say lack of motivation have been factors responsible for the unwanted results. This is not the same team that we saw the first three games of the season when we had thoughts of a 72+ win season. It just has not been there, on the defensive end they have been a step slow, and on the offensive end they have went away from passing the ball and moving around.

Following yesterday’s practice in Waltham, one of the Celtics not really known for being a leader stepped up to the plate and spoke. Who was it you may ask. A guy by the name of Kendrick Perkins, a guy who has been in the league for six years, and is usually considred as the “other” Celtics starter. This is what he Perk had to say about the team’s recent performance:
(Via the Boston Globe)

“I thought as far as Doc and the coaching staff, they had the right game plan for practice. As a team, we haven’t had the perfect execution for practice. We just gotta get back on the right track. We’ve been a spurt team. We’re not ready yet to be a 48-minute basketball team. That’s just not what we’ve done yet. We’re working on it.’’

These words coming out of Perk’s mouth was a shock to me, but really I was more shocked by the fact that the Celtics are not performing well in practice. Before the season started I was lucky enough to attend the Celtics open practice in Lowell, MA. Let’s just say they didn’t look very sloppy on that day, the team was playing it’s scrimmages with just as much intensity that you see in games.

As Celtics fans lets hope that every guy on the team feels the same way as Perk. If practice is the issue then all fifteen men on the roster need to be focused on improving every day in practice. Each individual needs to start working on their weaknesses, while also addressing the teams weaknesses as a whole. If they can do this, while staying energized, I expect much better performances for the rest of the year.
