According to Boston Celtics PR, two starters are listed on the injury report heading into Game 5 of their first-round series against the Orlando Magic: Jrue Holiday is OUT, and Jaylen Brown is QUESTIONABLE. Holiday remains out due to a right hamstring strain. He missed Games 3 and 4 as well, and he has yet to be upgraded to questionable or even doubtful since missing his first game of the series.
Meanwhile, Brown is back on the injury report again, listed as questionable to play in Game 5. He has been listed on the report ever since Game 1. Brown is dealing with the same knee injury that has nagged him for the last couple of months.
Brown got an injection in his knee before the postseason began.
Celtics injury report for Game 5 vs. Magic: Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday
Here is the full breakdown of Boston's Game 5 injury report:
Jrue Holiday - OUT - Right hamstring strain
Jaylen Brown - QUESTIONABLE - Right posterior knee impingement
Missing Holiday has proven to be a much bigger issue than some may have thought. Prior to going down, Holiday was an essential piece of the puzzle for Boston on both ends of the floor.
With Jayson Tatum sidelined in Game 2, Holiday stepped into a crucial playmaking role on offense—something the Celtics desperately missed in Game 3, which they lost 95-93.
And defensively, Holiday was one of the Celtics’ most effective defenders against Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner. The two Orlando stars continuously targeted the smaller Holiday, but he used his strength and defensive IQ to get the best of them more often than not.
As for Brown, he’s looked noticeably injured this series. Though he’s played in every game, Brown’s knee is clearly bothering him, as it’s affecting his burst and ability to rise up at the rim.
That said, he’s still managed to string together an effective series. Even when he had a relatively rough Game 4, his willingness to push the pace gave Boston’s offense a much-needed jolt.
Jayson Tatum remains off the injury report, though his wrist is still bothering him after his Game 1 fall. “I know what I'm dealing with. My team knows how serious it is, but it's that time of year,” Tatum said after Game 4. We're all sacrificing our bodies and going through things. It's the playoffs. I doubt anybody feels 100%.
“When you step on that floor, you do what you can, give with your all, and it's just all about trying to figure out how to win.”
