Boston Celtics question No. 3) Can Jaylen Brown actually forgive and forget?

Even with all of the impressive moves made by the Boston Celtics, it seems as though the overwhelming majority of attention has been on the reported trade talks held between the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets in regard to a potential Kevin Durant blockbuster.

According to a July 25th report by The Athletic’s Shams Charania (subscription required), Brad Stevens and the C’s front office made a mega proposal for the estranged Nets star, and, in the process, Jaylen Brown served as the centerpiece of the package that would be heading borough bound.

Ultimately, to the delight of Boston’s faithful followers, such a move was never actually made, but this didn’t stop the buzz from circulating its way through the news cycle and making it back to…Jaylen Brown.

Soon after these reports surfaced, the All-Star went to Twitter to react to the rumblings with a three-letter response, clearly indicating displeasure.

Now, while this alone could be enough to have sent fans into an absolute frenzy, with fears of Brown growing distant with the club ruminating, what makes such a notion sound all the more realistic in their minds is the fact that just a few weeks prior he had already been seen liking comments suggesting that Celtics fans generally disrespect him.

In the days since these reports came out, many have been giving their takes on the matter, with some remaining optimistic and bringing up how Brown’s staying committed to Boston amid the KD talks, while others have grown rather pessimistic with their coverage of the matter, with one anonymous Eastern Conference scout even going as far as to state that the wing “he won’t forget this.”

After having put forth one of the best seasons of his already impressive career, posting 23.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.1 steals per game on 47 percent shooting from the floor, whilst helping guide the Boston Celtics to their first NBA Finals since 2010, JB seeing his name floated around as being a possible trade chip can’t sit well with him.

Frankly, who could blame him?

The only thing we can really hope for at this point is that he can completely forgive and forget, for this will truly be the only way to officially help inch this team closer to dynastic status.

It may take a lot of work, especially on the C’s side of the equation, but keeping the Jays together should be Brad Stevens’ priority No. 1.
